We were at a dog show in
Karjaa with Kayimi. Kayimi performed well and
got a nice evaluation, result "Very Good"/1.
"Beautifully moving
bitch, who at this moment gives a little low
legged appearance. Expressive good head, good
bone, balanced structure, well carried tail,
good type of coat. Pleasant behaviour"

We were at a dog show in
Helsinki with Kayimi. Kayimi got the result "excellent"
and fourth. best female, the judge said that she
likes Kayimi very much, but places Kayimi as
fourth because Kayimi is not developed ready yet.
The judge was Kimberly Meredith-Cavanna from USA
and she is also a malamute breeder.
"Very promising junior.
Very nice proportions. Would prefer more almond
eye. She has very nice bone for her size. Very
nice balanced sidegate. Very promising"

We were at a small hikingtrip
in Helvetinjärvi national park with Nuki and
Kayimi. We started our hike in Kankimäki and
from there we went trough Helvetinkolu to
Luomajärvi. We slept in Luomajärvi and on the
next day we went back the same trail to
Kankimäki. We hiked 14 km.
The landscape in Helvetinjärvi
is beautiful and the terrain is variable. At
some points we went through swamps and some
points we climbed steep rocky hills. Some points
in the trail there were even a bit traffic and
dogs carrying their own backpacks was a sight to
many people and people took a lot of pictures of
the dogs too. Nuki and Kayimi performed their
backpacking job excellently and they were very
happy when they got to sleep in the tent too.
Kayimi was also escpecially pleased about the
blueberries around the trail, which she ate with
good appetite.
From here you can find a few photos of the
trip.

We were in Jämi at a sleddog
camp with Nuki, Chena and Kayimi. Home stayed
Nanuq and Waho to keep company to each other. At
saturday we drove six kilometers with cart. The
trail had already gotten a bit soft because
there was a dog race in the trail earlier and
there were two of us people in the cart so the
dogs had working to do, but they were all very
happy and eager to go. We also had very nice "bypass"
trainings with few other dog teams.
Kayimi also got to train
first time in her life working with complitely
strange dogs. Kayimi was in a team with two
siberianhuskies and she did a great job!
On sunday we drove again the
six kilometer long trail, this time with a
little less weight and then it was time head
back home.

We were at a group show in
Tuulos with Chena, result "very good/1". Kayimi
has started her third heat. We also have snow,
but unfortunently not enough for the sled yet,
but the dogs have been very exited of even just
this little amount of snow.

In the spring when everyone else where in the
malamute specialty show, I was sitting in
Finnish Kennelclubs obedience trainer-course.
During the spring and autumn I have done all the
practise trainings and followed all the
obedience trial classes, so finally I have an
obedience trainer-card on my hand.

Very busy "long weekend"
behind. On saturday we were at the Finnish
Winner show in Helsinki with Chena. Chena wasn't
suprised about the huge amount of dogs and
people and she was perky and cheery through the
very long day. Chena got a very nice evaluation,
"excellent" and won her class.
"2,5 years. Good size and
proportion. Feminine head. Good bite and pigment.
Good stop. Right shaped eyes. Good arctic ears.
Good neck and topline. Excellent tail. Very good
forechest. Good angulation in front and back.
Excellent bone and paws. Movements parallel,
balanced and energetic. Good arctic coat and
charecter."
On sunday in the Nordic
Winner we were just as tourists. On monday we
got for a lovely visit Chenas and Kayimis
breeder Erna Upmeijer. It was very nice that
Erna was able to come visit us and see the dogs
and Chena and Kayimi were very exited about the
visit too, it looked like Kayimi also seemed to
remember Erna.

There
has been plenty of snow this winter and more is
coming! The dogs have been very
exited about this “real winter”.
Unfortunently
Nuki started to “pace” in the team in the
beginning of winter. At x-ray we found out that
he has a little reaction in one of his back
joints and because of that his back is a little
hurt. So Nuki had a month rest and a
physiotherapist came to treat him. Now we will
wait and see how his back is starting to feel
like.
Our
pack has a new member of a lovely little
Siberian husky Takoda (Ristinummen
Sulosusi). Takoda is brave and energetic little
rascal. Takoda has many lead dogs in his
pedigree so hopefully Takoda will grow up to be
a good worker too. In sioux Takoda means “friend
to everyone”.

The sledding season has ended and now we are
waiting the roads to dry suitable for the cart
and kickbikes. Takoda has adapted well in our
pack and as you can see from the frontpage
Kayimi has gotten very fond of Takoda.
Gallerypage
has changed a bit and there are now new photos.
Some of the dates of the pictures are wrong,
but at least there is now more to look at. More
pictures are coming soon as possible.

There is still this much snow in the forest

Chena and Kayimi have been in healthchecks. Both
have healthy eyes and healthy 0/0-elbows, but
unfortunently Chena has B/C hips and Kayimi C/C.
Very disappointing results and suprising too,
escpecially since Chenas hips went to the
Kennelclub as A/A. Now we will just have to hope
that the hips won't start trouble them in the
future and Chena and Kayimi will continue to
stay as active sleddogs. Right now you wouldn't
believe that the hips-results are like this if
you look at their movements, because Chena and
Kayimi move and run around like crazy.

We were at
kennel Ristinummen
puppymeeting with Takoda. It was
very interesting to see how the
other puppies have developed and
Takoda had a great time playing
and running with his
littermates, his mom Witsi and
with a little older puppy Taiku.
Takoda was very tired in the
evening and went straight to bed
when we got home.
Here are some pictures of
the day.

15.7.2010
We have been spending our holiday with the dogs
and enjoying summer. Takoda has grown a lot and
he has practiced his swimming skills and at out
summer cottage the life of a camper dog. In the
winter Chena and Kayimi went through every bush
in our yard and at walks in the search for
berries. Soon they can eat them as much as they
wish, in the summer cottage they already tried
to eat raw berries.
Kayimi has been in new hip x-rays. The Finnish
Kennel Club evaluated the hips as C/C, so the
result didn’t change there. We also sent the
pictures to United States to Orthopedic
Foundation for Animals to be evaluated. At OFA
the pictures were evaluated separately by three
different veterinarians and they evaluated
Kayimis hips as “GOOD” and stated that there
were no signs of hip dysplasia. In the Finnish
Kennel Club both of the x-rays were evaluated by
the same veterinarian and the same veterinarian
evaluates all the pictures from all of the
breeds in Finland.
OFAs evaluation “GOOD” matches to FCIs
evaluation “A-2”. For more information about
OFAs hip-evaluations can be found
here.
We visited a dog show in Karjaa, where
completely naked Chena got the result “very good/1”.

15.8.2010
We had a trip with Takoda to Helsinki and
Suomenlinna. In the tram car Takoda wasn’t
bothered at all that the tram car was full of
people and there wasn’t much space and he just
slept on the floor. In Suomenlinna many tourists
recognized the breed and very happily shouted
“husky husky”.
We were also in a second puppymeeting in kennel
Ristinummen. Takoda was very happy to get to
play and run around with the other puppies, his
mom Witsi and with Geea too. Takoda is a very
social dog.
We are waiting for the weathers to cool down, so
Takoda could start training working in harness.
When Takoda is waiting just to go for walk in a
leash he is so exited that he almost starts
flying in the air.
Here are some photos of the
puppymeeting.
